An Australian tourist has been left with an empty bank account, thanks to thieves using a credit card, stored in app purchases on a tablet, stolen from the boot of the car he was driving.

Police are reminding tourists and locals to check their security settings after the theft from the man holidaying in New Zealand.

The man parked his car outside the house of a friend in Hamilton overnight.

When he returned the next morning the thieves had ripped open the boot and stolen his tablet and other items.
