More jobs than candidates means lots of work for travellers with the right qualifications. Michaela Piehl speaks to a recruitment consultant about nursing work in Australia.
Are there currently many employment opportunities within healthcare?
Definitely. We currently have many contract opportunities for travelling nurses and midwives all over Australia.
What kind of people are you looking for?
We want nurses from all specialisations, particularly those with theatre, accident and emergency or midwifery experience. We look for nurses who are seeking a contract that will be challenging, rewarding and lots of fun.
Do I need any qualifications or experience?
You will need the appropriate nursing qualifications and at least two years nursing experience. You will also need to be registered in the state you wish to work.
What documents will I need before I can sign up with your agency?
CV, photo ID, nursing qualifications, Australian bank account details, Tax File Number, superannuation and nurses board registration.
What advice can you offer in regards to my CV? What makes a good one?
A good CV is clear, concise and easy to read. List your experience starting with most current and work backwards. Include a blurb about you and what you are looking for work-wise.
Do you have work for travellers without any formal qualifications?
There are many opportunities for admin and receptionist roles. If you have at least two years medical administration or reception experience, then we have roles for you!
What advice would you offer to travellers when they first make contact with you?
Be really open and honest with your consultant, we are here to find the perfect position for you. Tell your consultant exactly what you want, the ideal location and the dates you are available. Have a resum ready an email address and a mobile phone.
How much money can I expect to earn?
We always pay above the award rate. Most of our contracts include accommodation too so that is a great bonus while you are travelling.
How long are the work placements?
Typically most nursing contracts are three months, but each contract is unique and can be negotiated to suit your individual travel plans.
Is there any chance of a temp position turning into a sponsored position?
We have a registered migration agent on staff and as the Australian health industry is experiencing a candidate shortage, sponsorship opportunities are much more available.
Where is the work located?
From remote rural communities, to lazy coastal towns, busy capital cities or the outback, we can help you experience the fantastic locations Australia has to offer.
What are the benefits of signing up with your agency?
Finding work in a foreign country can be difficult so avoid the stress by letting us do it for you. WeÕre an Australia-wide company which means we have greater access to the industry and all job opportunities.
