New band to watch: NZ's one-man, multi-instrumental Avalanche City

NZ multi-instrumentalist Dave Baxter started out in high school hardcore bands, supporting the likes of Sick Of It All, before moving on to working in a studio and writing short film scores
The buzz so far: Inspired by the DIY scene, he holed up in his own studio and wrote, recorded and produced every song on Our New Life Above Ground. The rootsy, folky music is embelished with surprising nuances and, perhaps unsurprisingly, given Baxter’s multi-talents, a rich tapestry of sounds, too. Cute and experimental.
