Destination Guide :: SA – Peninsula (Nullarbor Plain) - Destination Guide

Stretching from Port Augusta at the top of the Erye Peninsula, along the Great Australian Bight is the treeless Nullabor Plain. The Nullarbor stretch of the Eyre Highway is possibly the world's longest, straightest, flattest, most featureless road – all 2,400 Kilometres of it.

But the trip is still worth doing because there are some amazing sights along the way - soaring limestone cliffs, remote beaches, caves, seal colonies and from June to October, southern right whales and their calves. Much of the offshore area around the Head of Bight is national park and the whales share it with other large creatures such as dolphins and great white sharks (eek!).

Ceduna: This fishing town at the eastern end of the Nullarbor, with nearby Cactus Beach, is renowned for world-class surf.

Inland, the region offers rolling hills and farmland, remarkable rock formations and rugged Outback ranges to explore.

The region's tourism experiences include excellent fishing, one of the best locations in the world to watch whales, the chance to swim with dolphins and sea lions, and opportunities to experience the region's seafood and aquaculture, nature tourism, sailing and surfing.
